Mauritius is a volcanic island nation in the Indian Ocean, located about 2,000 kilometers off the southeastern coast of East Africa, east of Madagascar. Known for its pristine lagoons, palm-fringed beaches, and coral reefs, Mauritius has a population of around 1.3 million and is famous for its stability and cultural diversity. The island is almost entirely surrounded by coral reefs, with a central plateau rising to varying elevations.

Mauritius Island is divided into nine districts which consist of one city – Port Louis, four towns (Beau Bassin-Rose Hill, Curepipe, Quatre Bornes, and Vacoas-Phoenix), and 130 villages.
